Signs of the time

A picture is worth a thousand words even if it is taken in the rain from the inside of a car in a parking lot across the street. As a small (really small) business person I feel for the business that is closing. It’s just so shocking to see all those Obama posters on the building as well.

I know I’m not voting for President Obama for the very reason shown in this photo — the economy continues to be terrible, huge numbers of people are still out of work, our children and grandchildren are in debt over their heads because of this administration, welfare is on the rise, and commerce is screeching to a halt like the store in the picture. Obama signs pandering for votes are plastered all over the place anyway. I find it hard to believe that people would miss the irony here. So much about this photograph could be said…

Not real certain I want to vote for Mr. Romney because from where I stand it doesn’t look like the republicans have done much to help the situation. However, I have yet to find a store closing with Romney campaign posters plastered all over.

Just saying.

Vote for Chanda

Last week as I was taking my Mom out shopping I received a call on my cell phone. It was my kid in the Army. She had received her absentee ballot for West Bath and had a question. She stated that there was only one guy running for selectmen and unless there was a write-in campaign that was kind of a no-brainer. What she wanted to know was where the money was coming from for the school and what it was going to be used for.

I haven’t seen the ballot yet but I thought was an excellent question. She said that she would call the town office directly and ask them.  I do note that on the West Bath website there is a link for you to see the school budget.

The phone call reinforced my pride and my children in general. More specifically in this kid who is half a world away and still interested in local governance. It isn’t that she’s anti-school. She just wants to know where her tax dollars are going before she votes. Good for her!

It makes me wonder how many of us actually check to see what our tax dollars are being spent on. I know I haven’t looked at the school budget yet but I will. It puts me to shame that someone in Germany cares enough about what she’s voting for to call home and ask. It’s too bad that she has an obligation to fulfill for the Army because I would certainly put my kid down as a write in for selectmen.
