World of Warcraft vs. Maine Republican Party

Figure the odds of this!

For those of you who don’t play World of Warcraft or one of the other massively multiplayer online video games you may not understand this whole discussion. So just in case here is a quick and dirty definition: you have an avatar that you use to run around doing what amounts to a scavenger hunt (questing) and/or defeating monsters (usually with other players) in dungeons. Think of the Mario Brothers only on steroids. It’s a game.

Apparently now is it a reason not to vote for someone. Yep. If you play online games then you are not fit to hold an office according to the Maine Republican Party.

The Portland Press Herald ran a story in the Friday October 5, 2012 edition on the front page above the fold. “Politics meets ‘fantasy world’” by Michael Shepherd regarding the Maine Republican Party’s press and website outing  of Democratic State Senate candidate Colleen Lachowicz (and her World of Warcraft  toon “Santiaga”) to the public.

Probably not the best move on their part — but then again Maine political parties have proven over and over that they’re not the brightest bulbs in the bunch.

Really? Come on Maine Republican Party do you really want to go there? Do you have any idea how many voters and future votes play these games? Do you know what the online gaming term “troll” means?

I’m a voter. I am not a kid — in fact my kids aren’t kids anymore. I play World of Warcraft and other online games. Back when I first started gaming I was playing Zork which was an all text game with no graphic. I have a World of Warcraft toon that is level 85.  I also pay taxes. I am an unligned voter and pride myself on being neutral.

I think that my money is much better spent paying for a game subscription than giving it to the trolling Maine Republican Party.

For the Horde!
